Permission Email Marketing

When you start to  build a list chances are you will see the term permission email marketing… so what does it mean exactly?

Permission email marketing is the term given to sending information to a subscriber after getting what we call a Confirmed Opt-In. “Ok Dave, but what is a confirmed optin, you’re not making this any easier…”

Permission Email MarketingOK, well let’s use our own internet marketing email list on this blog as an example, you see the box where we say “the good stuff is on the list” ?  (If you aren’t the list, then why not?.. because the good stuff is on the list :) ) Well when you enter your details and hit the subscribe button you will notice that this is stage one of the opt-in process.

Confirmed Opt-In (some marketers call it Verified Opt-In) is the process used to make sure only people who want to receive your information are subscribed to your list.

As I say, what I have described above is the first stage. Here is how the whole thing comes together.

The subscriber is added to your list (by filling out a web form like the one this blog, emailing your autoresponder, or being manually imported).
A confirmation message is sent to the subscriber. This message contains a link automatically included in a customized message that the subscriber must click on in order to confirm they want to receive your information at the address provided to you.
After clicking on the link, the subscriber becomes active on your list and will receive your messages. You now have a confirmed opt-in, and when you send messages, you are then using permission email marketing.

Permission Email Marketing Advantages

I will quote Aweber here “permission email marketing is specific — people ask for a specific set of information, at a specific time, from a specific party (you).” Successful email marketing starts with permission. (It doesn’t end there, but it starts there.)

Permission Email Marketing Summary

Permission email marketing used in conjunction with a confirmed opt-in gives you proof that all subscribers did request your information, and protects you from false spam complaints.

Permission leads to better email deliverability and ultimately, better results from your permission email marketing.
